Leaf and Yard Waste Recycling Program

The City has received a grant from the Pa Department of Environmental Protection.  The Street Department will collect leaves from most City streets with a vacuum system, which will allow residents to put leaves at the curb instead of placing them in bags. The leaves will be taken to a Yard Waste Recycling Site near the City Garage, where the leaves will be composted into a soil amendment.

Tree trimmings, and other yard waste materials may also be composted at the Recycling Site. Residents must take these materials to the Site.  Restrictions are noted in this brochure.

BENEFITS OF PROGRAM

  • Leaves and yard waste will be composted
  • Leaves will be collected by the City
  • Good for the environment; bags of leaves and yard waste will not go to a landfill
  • Composted material is a good soil amendment for gardening and landscaping and is free to all residents

LEAF  PICK  UP

Leaf pick up will begin on or about October 1st and will run through December 31st.  The leaves will be collected every Thursday and Friday except for Thanksgiving week when they will be collected on Tuesday and Wednesday.  The leaves must be raked to the curb so the vacuum system can be utilized.

The following streets must continue to bag their leaves and put them at the curb due to street width and limited access to curbs because of parking:

  • Ann Street
  • Anton Street
  • Carson Street
